Welsh Government Energy Service

Supporting community and public sector organisations in Wales to reduce energy use, generate locally owned renewable energy and cut carbon emissions.

Location notice

Please note that this page contains information and links most relevant for people living in Wales.

The Welsh Government Energy Service supports community and public sector organisations in Wales to transition to net zero.

The programme is funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by a consortium led by us and Carbon Trust, with support from local partnerships. The consortium also includes Arup, Gfleet, Cenex, and GEP Environmental as subcontractors.

Since it began in 2018, the programme has supported the installation of renewable energy, building energy efficiency, low carbon heat and zero emission fleet projects across Wales.

Impact

The Welsh Government Energy Service has supported:

  • 49.2MW of new renewable energy capacity in Wales.
  • 1.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2E) savings over the lifetime of the projects.
  • £443m in local income and savings forecasted over the lifetime of projects
  • £270m of capital investment across 638 projects

The programme has also supported community energy projects, generating 37 megawatts (MW) of community energy across 80 organisations since 2013.
